Have just handed in the biggest essay that I have ever written – 8223 words (that 32 pages on the riveting topic of international labour relations and international trade).
Review – no intro to speak of, no real conclusion and a lot of words in between – 2.5 stars – that’s a pass.
However, now that that painful task is complete, M and I have the great joys of seating arrangements for the wedding. As there is no reception, but rather a dinner that is being imported into a library (yes that’s correct) there is no real convention to follow. Ie no bridal table. So does one surround themselves with family? Or the friends? Where does my father go? He paid for it… And my step parents… hmmm… And then there’s my sister who is Chief Woman – new title for the person who does everything and contributes to the wedding when you don’t have bridesmaids, best man etc etc… And her husband as the MC (standing in for an unexpected cancellation – I’m not going to go there…)
The wierd thing is that no matter how much you tell some people that this is not a conventional wedding and all the importance of the traditional roles are really not there anymore, it seems that it is impossible to get them to change their perceptions. Ie you have a wedding, you have a reception. Anyway – only 2 weeks 5 days to go. The countdown has begun.

J gave me as a present today (no it’s not my birthday), the very cool:
Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music, Volume Four (Revenant)
double album. on vinyl. and it looks great – haven’t listened to it yet but will crank it up this weekend as a treat after i finish my last uni essay for the year (barring a fail and need to resub or such). if i get really motivated i may even review the thing, might even spend more than fifteen seconds thinking about the review…
thanks also to Kami for another sterling recommendation.

watched The Machinist on DVD last night.
a skeletal looking Christian Bale as a chronic insomniac in really washed out colours. the bulk of the movie was bleak, weird and creepy.
very, very cool.
then it was completly fucked with a crap ending where it is all wrapped up and “explained” which kind of ruined the whole thing for me.
****/*
(four stars for most of it/1 star for the shit ending).

so J had some minor surgery today, and in a remarkable show of self-restraint not once did i try and get her to do a Shane McGowan impersonation while coming to from the effects of the anesthetic like last time.
that’s it. nothing profound or important to say just impressed with my own self-control

Has anyone noticed the nature of blog english. Its not so much a case of sms english where an entire new collection of words come into existence ( and on top of that some religious nerd thinks that they’ll make Christ more ‘groovy’ but converting the bible into sms lingo) but rather that bloggers try to write in a profound way. Its an an attempt to make interesting what is probably not really, as in essence this is the secret journal that you want people to read, and rather egomaniacally you make sure that its not just your mother who might find it under the pillow, but rather the whole world by putting it on the internet. Usually its also ”quirky’ and reference to things that you did or didn’t do but instead wrote this rather profound note… (like not working and blogging in your lunch break…).
So, in an attempt to avoid such quirky profundity I’m going to ensure that I blog neither the profound, or quirky – and quite frankly not very interesting: today I had one of the final wedding dresses fittings and I like it. Lucky my mum doesn’t have access to the internet or my pillow becasue she’d probably be comatose with boredom by now.

the October issue of The Wire (British music mag) has an article on Birchville Cat Motel(NZ) – (which btw is only one page, what’s up with that, the articles are getting shorter i’m sure, but that’s a rant for another time).
anyway in the article they define a bogan as “Australian white trash Metal troglodyte”
i don’t know why i find that so funny, but i do…
